Chapter 29 "Australia Day & Bikini Run"

So storms, heavy rain, fire's, tornado warning's and flood's are the reports from back home in Australia. Meanwhile in Canada for Australia Day...

This is "The Australia Day Bikini Run Expedition" at Silver Star Mountain Resort. After a few Triple J Hottest Hundred Parties last night, some of the Working Holiday Club Members took on the cold of Canada along with their hangovers...

Here we were thinking Australia Day wouldn't be the same half way across the world, but with staff from The Working Holiday Club how could it not!!!

Chapter 28- "Kylie Down, I repeat Kylie Down"

As you may have read in the previous blog, Kylie has injured herself snow boarding. Hence the title of this chapter "Kylie Down, I repeat Kylie Down" If you haven't read our previous blogs... why not? No seriously why not? We need feedback!

May we suggest that after you look at our previously blogs that you also look into your travel insurance & fine print and check that you are covered for everything you need. A few other Working Holiday Club Member's have also injured themselves and gone to hell and back to make a claim and get looked after.

Lucky for us we did our research and we will get a refund back from the amount paid to see the doctor. Which was $950 to walk through the Hospital doors... Ouch Right? Yeah you want it covered! You do get a hipster bracelet though for that $950.

So during the week Kylie was room bound; kinda like a holiday that you cant do anything on. Kylie couldn't do much, so people watching outside the window and repeats on pay TV it was for a week.

So each day when I came home from work I had to listened to the stories of the old couple not picking up the dog poo when they took it on its morning walk. The hung over young guy who vomited in the snow & covered it up. The car that parked in front of the Fire Truck Parking Only Sign and watch these little kids who showed her up on their boards...

Rather cute aren't they!!! Not sure of the legalities of filming them? Who knows one of them could be the next Travis Rice and this film will be priceless in years to come. Either way feel free to leave your comments below on the topic.

So Kylie's Working Holiday has now turned into just a holiday; lucky we had saved up like The Working Holiday Club had told us to do so.

Chapter 27 "Finally Back on the boards"

So the busy part of the season has died down now & we're both in good health (It's about time too). Silver Star has had some great snow fall this season & the Alpine base is sitting above 200cm. For our first season on the snow we have been spoilt with the amazing conditions.

Clearly we have both been itching to get out on the boards and even more to do so together. We are lucky enough to have two great bosses that work together to ensure we as a couple can have time off together and that's what was arranged for us this week...

So it was shred time for us & it was for two days in a row; holy moly we were going to be sore! Thankfully for us we have a massage voucher; Thanks again for that Jon & Michelle!

Kylie & Her Sexy Board.

So the boarding began bright & early, the conditions where limited visibility without snow fall (we are thankful for that, so when we fell flat on our faces no one really could see) Nick Hutchins join Kylie & I for a board & to help out with our skills. Especially with getting on & off the lift...

Taking the lift up was the start.
Nick was giving us some pointers.

All we could do was look down at our board - which your not suppose to do!!!
and stare at the magical view of the Monashee Mountains.
We were successful on getting off the lifts without injury, nothing worse than falling flat on your face or bum (dam those lift's must have some good laughs) Nick gave us a few pointers and we boarded for a few hours & then stopped off for lunch at paradise Camp.

It was a great day until Kylie injured herself on a flat run and took out her previously injured knee. She is currently laying on the couch icing it & keeping it elevated. With any luck she'll be good by tomorrow, somehow though I think I'll be boarding alone in the morning whist she is enjoying a much needed massage.

Nick & I continued the afternoon hitting up some black runs and finding some great powder to play in. I still have a lot of growing to do with snowboarding and cant wait for more days like today (minus Kylie's injury)

Nick strapped in about to hit his first black run.
This is Rachel on her bum, black runs just too much at this stage.

I also captured some amazing views of the mountains whilst being on my backside...

Thank you mother nature for some great snow fall, Silver Star for turning mother natures gift of snow into fun, Nick for your tips & The Working Holiday Club for your assistance in making this all possible.

Chapter 26 "FLASH MOB"

Weeks ago I was approached by the events co-ordinate (Joanne) in regards to doing a flash mob with in the village. Of course I was enthusiastic about the idea but not so much at trying to organize staff to do this.
The 1st meeting was held a few days later & I was surprised with the response; we had a solid 20 people wanting to participate. Believe it or not there was even a few boys willing to give it ago (I think the thought of girls practicing in crop tops was motivating)
The next step of trying to organise a time & date to practice the dance & even more so create the dance itself! Lucky for me I had Kyla to help out with the choreography.
The moves were busted out & the girls were excited about the whole concept. The music was sorted & we even filmed it to post on our "OPERATION NOEL" facebook page in hope that others would learn the moved & join in.
We had a few more practices after that and we were as ready as we were going to be. Then on christmas eve right after the fireworks we were suppose to start but we only had 5 of us girls there my worst fears started. The music started and my heart sank but before you knew it out from the crowd we combined with 20 or so of us glow sticks in hand, santa hats on heads and energetic dance moves!

The crowd loved it and we were lucky enough to get a few shots of it & some on film. I've been waiting a few weeks for the film but unfortunately still haven't got my hands on it. As soon as I do though I'll post it on the next blog.
Afterwards we got a photos with majority of us

Chapter 25 "Quarantine"

Since New Years Day I have been in Quarantine, I have developed some bacterial infection that has had me doing nothing but lying on a mattress in the lounge room with a box of tissues (which quickly turned into rolls of toilets papers because they are cheaper)  not eating, not sleeping, not being awake, just dying really.

I took the initiation to quarantine myself from Kylie & Lisa so they don't catch this disease. Why? Because I need someone to care fore me. Just joking! It's going around staff accommodation like wild fire & I care about my room mates. But I do need them to look after me on a serious note...

I hadn't eaten in 5 days and I've been through 7 toilet rolls & 2 boxes of tissues. But I woke up and made the decision to attempt to go to work in hope that I would forget about being sick.

I don't know how I thought I could forget I was sick? I was constantly coughing and have a runny nose that required constant attention! Guess I didn't really think it through, they call it flew brain, I think (Guess I shouldn't think though).

After 2 & a half hours of not helping anyone others than possibly giving the other staff days off (which they wouldn't be ale to enjoy) I was sent home. I felt a little disappointed, how ever I conceded defeat & went straight to bed.

It's now been 8 days since I have been at work. I have eaten 4 meals in the past 8 days and I have more energy to actually be walking around. The new antibiotics have started to help me combat this virus. With any hope I'll do a few hours tomorrow at work and be back into action.

Because I need money! There is no sick pay on a working holiday people! Keep that in mind when Julia & Jake tell you to save up the pennies! It's not so you can shout them a drink when they visit your resort (well it probably is a little, I'm not going to lie) but it's mainly for when your sick. Or not getting enough hours to cover the rent when the season dies down.

Oh did I mention that I have been missing out on some of the best snowboarding powder days at Silver Star this season so far. Here are some of the pictures because I'm sure you don't want to see photos of my mucus or runny nose and the blog requires at least 3 photos....

So Stunning.

Wish I wasn't sick!

Photos from the Silver Star Facebook Page.

I have prepared some tips for you so you can avoid giving the plague to your mates.

Tip 1: Quarantine yourself from everyone else (even if it's not you sick)
Tip 2: Wash your hands (it may seem simple to do but it's really difficult with no energy)
Tip 3: Flush your tissues (but don't block the toilet up either)
Tip 4: Drink plenty of water/juice. (& use the same cup - don't contaminate the others)
Tip 5: Persist (with those above, even when you think your better don't be fooled)

Leave us any other tips your know of & be creative about them :)
